The DUCKLING canyoning descender provides three different levels of braking. Before starting the descent, the rope must be set in the appropriate position depending on the user’s weight, the rope diameter, and the terrain.
-
Fast mode — the rope is clipped into the carabiner in front of the IR0320 Duckling. By wrapping the rope around the right-hand horns, you can reduce speed directly during descent.
-
Moderate mode — the rope is clipped into the carabiner through the IR0320 Duckling.
-
Slow mode — the rope is clipped into the carabiner behind the IR0320 Duckling.
Three additional friction horns allow you to increase braking during descent. Altogether, the device offers 9 rope-routing options, each providing a different amount of friction and therefore descent speed.
A key advantage of the Duckling is the extra internal horn. This allows you to quickly shift the rope into the narrow section, significantly increasing friction, while the device remains fully functional in this configuration.
The device can be used with double ropes.
The small attachment hole, where the carabiner is seated, is fitted with a rubber ring. This keeps the system rigid: the device is securely fixed to the harness when loading the rope, preventing accidental loss, and greatly reducing the risk of lever action on the carabiner gate (if oriented incorrectly). The IR0320 Duckling descender is compatible with 12 mm round-stock carabiners, such as oval carabiners by TM Vertical.
